Spirited Bidding Produces Great Results in Cowan's September 19th Cleveland Auction

 Fairfield Porter Painting Brings $51,000

 CINCINNATI, OH – September 22, 2015— Cowan's Auctions Cleveland Fine and Decorative Art Auction took place on September 19, 2015. With a large crowd and heavy participation on both the phones and Bidsquare, prices for many of the lots soared past their pre-auction expectations. The auction featured works by well-known artists, cast iron mechanical banks, sculpture, clocks, Cleveland advertising, fine furniture, Tiffany-style lamps, silver, and many other items will crossed the auction block. 

 Works by Fairfield Porter soared above their pre-auction estimates and . A painting titled "Jimmy in the Sun" by Fairfield Porter is estimated to bring anywhere between $21,800 above its $5,000/7,000 estimate, and another painting, titled "Springtime Meadow Landscape," was the high seller for the day at $51,000.

 Toys and advertising entered the foray in the September 19th auction. A Cast Iron Girl Skipping Rope Mechanical Bank sold for $26,400 and a Cast Iron Calamity Mechanical Football Bank brought $9,000. Other highlights from the toys section in the sale included a Hoge Pressed Steel Wind-up Popeye in a Rowboat which sold for $2,040, and a Lehmann Zulu Ostrich Cart Windup Toy which realized $1,320.

 Additional notable lots in the sale included a Waylande Gregory piece for Cowan Pottery that sold for $3,840, a Tiffany Style Leaded Glass Lamp realized  $2,520, a Heinrich Handwerck Simon & Halbig Doll sold for $1,800 and a Austrian Miniature Jeweled and Enameled Clock realized $1,722.
