Josef Hoffmann Chairs by Wittmann
5/6/2016 - Modern Art: Live Salesroom Auction
Continental, 20th century. A pair of upholstered Josef Hoffmann (Austrian, 1870-1956) designed side chairs, with stained and lacquered wood, manufactured by Wittmann of Austria, with brass and paper Hoffmann Estate and Wittmann labels on underside; oah. 27.5 in. (each).

Condition:  
Some surface scratches to wood. One with both manufacturer's and Hoffmann estate labels, one with only manufacturer's label.
Left chair: General wear consistent with use. Some discoloration to upholstery on seat. Visible split in wood at screw in interior of ring under left armrest. This chair has several scuffs to the back of the back rest at the top where it would rub against a wall.

Right: General wear consistent with use. Some discoloration to upholstery on seat. Scratch at center of back rest on front. Both arms have splitting at the screw on the interior of the circle. Split in the wood on the base by back right leg.
