PROVENANCE
The Humana Corporate Art Collection

Wendell Cherry showed great interest in the work of Joe Dudley Downing, an internationally renowned artist and alumnus from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY, and purchased this work directly from the artist and his family in 1983.

The lot includes copies of correspondence between Wendell Cherry and Dero Downing, brother of the artist and President Emeritus of WKU at the time of the purchase.

Condition:

Very small stain, barely noticeable, above the signature. Darker colored areas which are likely original to the painting, but do stand out visually. Thin scratches to frame, not very noticeable either.
