PROVENANCE
The consignor attended Ohio University in Athens, OH, with the artist in the 1950s. They were roommates, and the Portrait of Nancy was hung in their living room, along with other works by Dine. Dine later gifted the painting to the consignor and his wife as a wedding present.

The lot also includes a copy of a letter signed by the consignor recounting how he acquired the painting from Dine, as well as six photographs featuring the artist himself, some of his works, and importantly, the Portrait of Nancy with the consignor sitting in front of it.

Upper left joint of frame is loose.
