American (New Hope, Pennsylvania), mid-20th century. A set of four George Nakashima (1905-1990) walnut chairs with grass seats, each with a curved back and turned legs; oah. 27 in. (each).

Provenance:
Property of Grailville, Loveland, OH
Originally purchased by Lydwine Van Kersbergen (1904-1998), a founding Grail member in the United States, between 1956-1964, while residing at an early Grail center in Burlington, NJ.

Condition:

All of the chairs have some scuffs to the legs and general wear, particularly on the edges. Glue residue to the juncture of the legs with the body, some more visible than others. 0.5 in. long scratch to back of one chair, with some broken ropes as well. Crack to back rest of one chair, with repair to a spindle, a few grooves to the top of the back rest and a small (0.25 in. long) dent to the edge of the seat, and a couple of  broken ropes. The ropes on another chair have some fraying, and there is some staining to the top where the spindles join the seat. Some broken ropes, again, to the fourth chair, along with a 0.25 in. long dent to the top of the seat on the side.
