North Carolina Flintlock Long Rifle
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
.40 caliber, 41.75" swamped octagonal barrel. Silver blade front sight, notched rear sight, double screw tang. Engraved lock with dog pointing, single sidelock screw, double-set triggers. Four-piece engraved Daisy-style patchbox with release on the upper plate. This is a very typical feature of a North Carolina rifle. Brass toeplate with
fleur de lis
and an oval piercing. Brass butt plate, eagle sideplate, brass triggerguard, brass ferules. Maple stock with cheek piece, molding along the top of the comb of stock running down to the wrist and ending in a nice tear drop. No forward molding. Barrel has untouched patina. Lock has some pitting underneath the pan, around the frizzen spring and precluding onto the barrel around the touch hole. Brass has been polished. The stock has been repaired in the wrist, a very professional job. From the forward are of the rear ferule to the noise cap has been expertly replaced.
A very rare rifle that seldom comes up for sale.
