4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
8.5" heavy blade with full tang and nicely scalloped top spine, 13" overall length with heavy German silver crossguard and having beautiful stag horn scales retained by four German silver pins. Marked "
GEO. Wostenholm
" over a large marked "
I*X L
" on the obverse ricasso. The blade etching is very faint but says "
CALIFORNIA KNIFE
" in large block letters. No scabbard present. This exact knife is pictured on page 91 of the book "Bowie Knives of the Ben Palmer Collection" by Palmer, Moran and Phillips (Philips Publ., 1992).
Condition:
The blade and crossguard show salt and pepper untouched patina. The stag horn scales show an untouched brown and dark yellow patina with a couple very minute hair line cracks.
