Sheffield Bowie Knife
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
9" x 2" x .25" clip point blade, 15" overall length. Marked "
Venture - Slater Brothers - Sheffield
" on the obverse ricasso. Beautiful round tipped ivory handle with gs cross-guard, ferrule and pommel. Complete with contemporary nicely made leather sheath. Late period Bowies (1920 - 1940) were not made as intentional reproductions, but were just late production knives. Other Bowies were made in this period by such makers as Geo. Wostenholm.
Condition:
Ivory grips are fine condition. Pommel and cross-guard show normal tarnish. Contemporary leather sheath shows some black patina and scratches.
