Cased Percussion Whitworth Rifle
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
.45 caliber, 30" round barrel with Rigby flats. Top of barrel marked Whitworth Patent. Express rear barrel sight with three leaves, graduated 100 yards through 1000 yards.  Engraved banknote-style hammer and back-action lock also marked Whitworth with safety.  Breech engraved with a stag, engraved tang.  Engraved patchbox with stag running. Engraved buttplate.  Engraved triggerguard with checkered loop and pineapple finial. Finely figured walnut stock with very fine checkering and horn nose cap. Cased in a mahogany case with brass corners. Most accessories are missing, but still has a nice leather-covered flask and a percussion capper.

Condition:  
Barrel has a dark plum finish. Tang lock, hammer, patchbox and triggerguard have a dark patina and are very crisp. Stock is excellent and untouched with some minor nicks and dings.
