American, 19th century. A scrimshawed whale's tooth depicting a man in military dress extending his hand to receive a letter from a woman, engraved on both sides and on a wooden stand; lg. 6.25 in.

From the Estate of Kenneth Erwin, Portland, Michigan
Condition:
Crack through entirety of side depicting the man, extending over the point of the tooth to the top of the reverse side.
