American, 19th century. A sailor's cane with alternating angled rings of baleen and whalebone having a knob topped by an ivory disc featuring a relief carved and polychrome painted heart in hand; lg. 34 in.

Condition:
Baleen sections separating in multiple places. Third whalebone section from bottom missing half.
