. Keifer was Lt. Col. of the 3rd OVI and Col., 110th OVI, m/o 6/27/65. This outstanding officer was wounded four times during the war (twice at Winchester, severely in the Wilderness, and again at Opequan) and received two wartime brevets including Maj. Gen. Bvt. Brig. Gen. John I. Rinaker post-war copyshot with Halliday & Kessberger, Springfield, IL imprint; Col. 22nd IL. 9/62, WIA Parker's Cross Roads, TN 12/31/62, Bvt. Brig. Gen. 3/13/65; m/o 7/15/65.
