Three CDVs, New York BBGs: Ambrose S. Cassidy, Isaac S. Catlin, CMOH, William H. Christian
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
Cassidy, Ambrose Spencer (1821-1889). Cassidy enlisted immediately when war was declared in April 1861. He was commissioned 1st. Lieut. into F&S of the 84th NY Infy. a month later. He was promoted to Major and transferred to the 93rd NY in Jan. 1862. He was discharged for disability, having been captured at Lee's Mills, VA. He was paroled in Sept.1862 after 5 months a prisoner. In 1864 he was offered a Colonelcy, but declined. He received his Brig. Gen. by brevet in March 1865. Most of backmark torn away, but photo by Brady, New York.
Catlin, Isaac Swartwood (1835-1916). He also enlisted early (April 24) as a Captain. He was commissioned into the 3rd NY Infy. He was promoted Lt. Col. in July 1862 and commissioned into the 109th NY in October. He mustered out in June 1865 at Washington, DC. Catlin was wounded at Petersburg July 30, 1864, requiring the amputation of his right leg. He received the Medal of Honor for his actions that day, rallying the disorganized troops. He received brevets for both Brig. Gen. and Major Gen. Cdv with backmark of Israel & Co., Baltimore.
Christian, William Henry (1825-1887). Christian enlisted enlisted in May 1861 as a Colonel and was commissioned into F&S of the 26th NY Infy. He resigned in Sept. the following year. He received his brevet in the omnibus awards of March 1865. Photo with

Condition:
Cassidy carte trimmed along left side; moderate toning. Appears to have been affixed to something at some point. Catlin with minor toning and handling wear; pencil ID on verso. Christian with tape residue along right edge, pencil ID on verso.
