Three CDVs, Massachusetts BBGs: Sumner Carruth, Thom. E. Chickering, and Arthur R. Curtis

Carruth, Sumner (1834 - 1892). Carruth enlisted early in the war as a captain in the 1st MA Infy. In August 1862, he was commissioned into F&S of the 35th MA Infy. He was wounded twice, and taken prisoner in Nov. 1862. He was exchanged in February and returned to duty. He rose through the ranks to Colonel shortly after his return. He received a brevet BG for "gallant and meritorious service in front of Petersburg." Cdv with backmark of Riggins & Co., Boston. Inscribed and signed by Carruth with rank as Col. of the 35th MA Vol. Infy.
Chickering, Thomas Edward (1824 - 1871). 38-year-old Chickering enlisted as Colonel of the 3rd MA Cav. in the autumn of 1862. He was brevetted BG Vols. for "distinguished and important service" during the war. He resigned after only two years of service. Cdv backmarked Silbee, Case & Co., Boston.
Curtis, Arthur Russell (1842 - 1925). Curtis enlisted in the 20th MA Infy in Nov. 1861. He was wounded twice, captured in August 1864, and exchanged three months later. He received a brevet (BG) in March. He received a brevet colonelcy for Fredericksburg and Wilderness, and BBG for "gallant and meritorious service during the war" in 1865. He resigned shortly after Lee's surrender. Cdv with backmark of Black, Boston.
