4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
Brown, Philip Perry, Jr. (1823-1881). Brown enlisted in Sept. 1862 as Colonel of the 157th NY Infy. He received his brevet BG in March 1865, and was promoted to Col. of the 7th Veteran Volunteers in July 1865. He mustered out in early 1866. The 157th's first battle was Chancellorsville, and its losses were close to a hundred dead, wounded and missing. It then was engaged at Gettysburg on July 1 & 2, where it lost over 300. After this it was stationed around Charleston Harbor, participating in various operations in that area. Photographer's ID of Schoonmaker, Troy, NY in lower margin of recto. Pencil identification on verso.
