Brown, Hiram Loomis (1832-1880). Brown enlisted as Captain a week after Lincoln's first call for troops and was commissioned into Co. B, Erie PA Infy. (3-months). A month after being discharged, he was commissioned Captain into the 83rd PA Infy. The following summer, he was promoted to Col.of the 145th PA Infy. He received his brevet BG in Sept. 1864. He resigned 1 Feb. 1865, just before the end of the war. He was captured at Gaines' Mill, after being slightly wounded in that battle (6.27.62). He was exchanged (for Rufus Barrier, 8th NC), and captured again at Petersburg (6.16.64). He was held at Macon, GA and exchanged less than two months later at Charleston, SC. Campbell, Jacob Miller (1821-1888). Campbell enlisted in April 1861 as 1st Lieut. in the 3rd PA Infy. in the QM Department. That 3-month unit mustered out at the end of July, and the following February Campbell re-enlisted as Col. of the 54th PA Infy. He received a brevet BG for "gallant and meritorious service" at the battle of Piedmont, VA. He mustered out in Sept. 1864. Backmark of Ewing & Co., Cumberland, MD. Oval albumen in printed "frame" with surround of blue "marble" pattern.

Clark, Gideon (1822-1897). Clark enlisted as 1st Lieut. in April 1861, even though he was 40 years old. He was commissioned into the 17th PA Infy, Co. B. This was the first Regt. PA Artillery in the state militia, of which Clark was adjutant, and it elected to serve for 3 months in the Federal forces. The first order of business faced by this unit was to open Baltimore so Federal troops could reach Washington. The 17th joined Sherman's Light Battery and companies from the regular army, and under General Butler took military possession of the city. In Sept. 1862 he was commissioned Lt. Col. of the 119th PA Infy. He received brevets of Col. and BG to date from March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious service" storming the enemy works at Petersburg. Clark was wounded in that engagement. He mustered out at Philadelphia 6.19.65. Cdv with backmark of Gutekunst, Philadelphia.
