Anonymous vignette of Bvt. Maj. Gen. Rutherford B. Hayes, Col. 23rd OVI. Severely wounded at South Mountain, successively a brigade and division commander in the Shenandoah, Hayes' bravery earned him a brevet for Fishers Hill and Cedar Creek.
