Georgia Militia Coatee
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
Navy blue wool nine-button double-breasted coatee.  Four-button non-serviceable cuff.  Buttons are marked "Waterbury Button Co."  Each cuff has a crown-shaped bullion on light blue material with white border.  Back of coat has three seams that lead to center vent on coat tails.  The coat tails measure 16.5". Coat tails have a thick light blue border outlined in white. Each coat tail has crown-shaped bullion in light blue material bordered in white with one button at each top of the crown.  Center vent has two buttons at top and bottom.  Inside lining is white with wide quilted pattern under arms and chest; at waistline and to bottom of coat tails is lined in dark olive. Sleeves are lined in white.

Isaac Thompson was with the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. Following Hood's loss of Atlanta to the Union forces in September 1864, the 2nd Kentucky cavalry became part of General Joseph Wheeler's Cavalry unit to harass General Sherman's army during its "March to the Sea."  These items were previously on display at a now defunct museum in Murfreesboro, Georgia.  The lot was purchased along with the firearms in Lots 803 and 1213.


Condition:  
This coatee shows signs of mothing and small moth holes throughout. There is a repair on the front right elbow. Missing a total of 6 buttons on coat tails (3 on each side). Holes at top of left shoulder. Lining of coat is good, but shows signs of wear and staining. Missing shoulder epaulets. Overall condition is good.
