**Springfield Armory M-1 Garand N.M Rifle, Scarce Original "Type 1"

.30-06 caliber, 24" barrel marked on left side "NM," S/N 5944672. Parkerized finish, walnut stocks, buttstock with 3 stars over eagle in a square cartouche. Barrel marked "T P SA F6E35448 12 55 A224B P;" bolt marked "6528287-SA, A16;" right receiver leg marked "Z 12 B, F 6528291," op-rod marked "6535382 SA;" rear sight marked "DRC IHC;" trigger housing marked "6528290-SA;" hammer marked "SA D5546008." Includes original 1956 dated government purchase paper.

Condition:  
Excellent condition with an excellent bore. It retains ca 97% original parkerized finish with only minor wear on the bolt ant the receiver from the op-rod. The wood is excellent with only a few very minor dings.    Included with this rifle in an excellent article written by author Bruce N. Canfield for "American Rifleman" magazine stating that there were only about 4000 "Type 1" National Match rifles sold through the DCM program and that few un-altered examples are in civilian hands. This is a truly rare, collectible Garand in top condition.
