First Model Springfield Officer's Rifle
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
45-70 caliber, 26" round barrel with small
V P
and eagle, indicating production between 1876-1877. Square shoulder breech block and square shoulder receiver. Correct rear barrel with graduations on the right side 1-4 and a small 50 on the right side; leaf is graduated to 12. Large U on the barrel band and engraved on top of band. Single set triggerguard. Engraving on the top of receiver, breechblock engraved and marked Model 1873 with eagle and crossed arrows. Engraved on tang, engraved lock and hammer. Engraved triggerguard, engraved top of buttplate and engraved white metal fore end tip. Checkered walnut stock. Lockplate marked with

and Eagle. Rear tang sight is an old reproduction. Front folding globe is correct.
Condition:
This is a very nice old first type officer's rifle showing use. All metal has a nice even worn look. Stock blends well with the metal. Ramrod is a replacement.
