U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Single-Shot Pistol by
A. Waters
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
.54 caliber, 8.5" barrel. Lock marked
A. Waters, Milbury, Ms., 1841
. (Asa Waters, Millbury, Mass.) Waters (1769 - 1841) was a successful gunsmith and industrialist in Millbury. He and his brother, Elijah, founded an armory, and won some government contracts. He later founded Millbury Bank and served as representative to the Massachusetts House. His home, designed by Asher Benjamin, still stands as a National Register Historic landmark. These pistols were the last flintlocks contracted by the government, and widely used in the Mexican and Civil Wars (and many were later converted to percussion).
