[Kansas] Rare View of a Buffalo Hunter's Home in Sheridan, KS
3/19/2015 - Wes Cowan Stereoview Auction: Timed Auction end 3/30
Buff regular sized mount with imprint of  Robert Benecke, St. Louis, Mo., with the ink title Buffalo Hunters Home / Sheridan, Kansas, circa late 1860s-early 1870s.  The view shows two buffalo hunters outside their dugout shelter on the plains, both posed with long range Sharp's "Big 50" buffalo rifles and their dog and horses beside them.  Several buffalo parts hang drying at right.

Taken during the height of the period when the American bison was being decimated, this view is only the second copy I have seen in nearly 30 years. This view epitomizes the rough, and ragged life of the professional buffalo hunter.
