Folk Art Carved Wall Plaque of an Eagle and Shield

American, late 19th-early 20th century. A relief-carved pine wall plaque of an eagle, its head and beak pointed upward with portions of both wings visible, its claws grabbing a polychrome painted shield with an American flag motif, the stars of the flag depicted with slightly-raised and painted nail heads; 16.5 x 18.25 in.

Exhibited as part of The American Eagle: Icon & Symbol held at Taylor University and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.


Condition:  
Some wear to paint. Tip of one wing and edge of mouth broken.
