World War II-Period Ensign that Flew During Okinawa Invasion, Plus Related Flags Belonging to Sibley E. Bush

3 flags and accompanying note and pictures, from Sibley E. Bush. 3x5" index card note reads:" We flew this national ensign all during the invasion of Okinawa." January of 1944 he went to Midshipman School at North Western University in downtown Chicago, the first time he ever experienced a snowstorm. He was commissioned an officer in the Navy and assigned to a minesweeper in the South Pacific where he saw battles in the Philippines and Okinawa. When the war ended, Dee's ship along with other minesweepers swept the Inland Sea of Japan so hospital ships could safely come into harbor. After, he sailed via Saipan, Pearl Harbor and Terminal Island to Treasure Island where the ship was decommissioned. A voyage of 6,500 miles!

Includes the following flags:

Wool flag, 41 x 80 in., with 48 printed stars configured in 6 horizontal rows, on blue wool canton. Fly with 13 machine-sewn stripes. Hoist stamped with the following: U.S. Ensign No. 9 / Mar(grommet) Island Jan 1944. 

Wool flag, 28 x 50 in., with 48 printed stars configured in 6 horizontal rows, on blue wool canton. Fly with 13 machine-sewn stripes. Hoist stamped with the following: U.S. No. 11 MI 45

Wool pennant, approx. 49 in. long, with 7 machine-stitched stars. With red and white machine-sewn stripes. With Allison inked on white stripe.

Very good. front edge of middle flag tattered from being flown.
