French Double Flintlock Shotgun
4/30/2014 - Firearms and Militaria: Live Salesroom Auction
.22 ga., 32.75" browned barrels with maker's name in gilt. Nicely designed tang grooved for sighting. Platinum blow out plugs. Iron buttplate with
fleur-de-lis
design; triggerguard with
fleur-de-lis
design on the front. Stock tip made of iron and decorated with
fleurs-de-lis
. Locks are plain with nicely executed designs as finials. Finely figured walnut stock with checkered wrist and raised carving behind tang and on the left rear of stock behind the cheek piece.
Condition:
Barrels still retains most of the original brown finish and gilt just lightly fading. Locks are very sharp and crisp with a nice mottled grey to silvery look. Stock is excellent but has a very slight crack that permeates through the wrist, which is only noticeable up on close examination. Stock has some nicks and dings, but still retains an untouched look.
