Lot 85

Paul Chaleff (American, b. 1947)
5/6/2016 - Modern Art: Live Salesroom Auction
Tri-Footed Bowl
stoneware
ca 1994
ht. 4.5, dia. 9.5 in.

The form of this vessel is inspired by the 17th century Japanese wood-fire potteries in Bizen, Tamba, Shigaraki and other kiln sites. Chaleff is one of the great American masters of wood-fired pottery. What is particularly special about this piece is its scale which is far smaller than the usual 2-5 foot works that Chaleff is known for. An exceptional example of this American potter's work.
