Quarter Plate Ambrotype of a Loaded Horse-Drawn Freight Wagon
12/2/2011 - American History, Including the Civil War
Quarter plate outdoor ambrotype depicting a fully loaded horse-drawn freight wagon. Mat stamped lower left C.L. Page/ Artist, and lower right Pat July 4 & 11/ 1864. Craig's Daguerreian Registry lists a Carlos L. Page, who may have had a partnership with F.H. Chessman at 145 Hanover St., Boston, MA, as daguerreians from 1858-1859. He advertised ambrotypes in Cambridge and Cambridgeport, MA in 1860. In Cambridge, Page was listed as partner with Chessman on Main Street, Woods Block.
